“The silkworm has many thoughts
and wants to parade his knowledge.
He does so by creating a cocoon
and kills himself in his confused ideas.”
- Rumi, 13th century mystic
McCain cries, “He wants to spread the wealth around” in messy, Robin Hood-like fashion, upsetting the establishment, setting aside the status quo for “change we can believe in.” The [...]

“When matters are desperate, we must put on a desperate face.” – Robert Burns
My, McCain was awfully expressive last night, almost to the point of appearing a cartoon of himself. If anyone watched the C-SPAN version of the debate, it showed a split screen virtually the entire time, measuring each candidate’s reaction to what his [...]

“Fascism is capitalism in decay.” – Vladimir Lenin
Now, in our dark hour, shall we see Mr. W’s “New Deal,” the desperate nationalization of the American banking system to go with a $700 billion taxpayer funded get-out-of-jail-free-card, [...]

“I pledge you, I pledge myself, to a new deal for the American people.” -Franklin D. Roosevelt
In the wake of an unprecedented $700 billion tax-payer funded bailout of a short-sighted, overextended financial services industry, the Bush administration is now discussing the possibility of effectively nationalizing the banks, a staggering suggestion coming from a supposedly conservative, non-interventionist political [...]

“Seal up the mouth of outrage for awhile, till we can clear these ambiguities.” -William Shakespeare
Palin says Obama is “not like us,” in reference to his past associations with fringe leftist William Ayers. McCain says “that one” voted for a bill referenced during last night’s debate. Apparently, such attacks are “racially tinged,” according to some black [...]

“The hardest thing about any political campaign is how to win without proving that you are unworthy of winning.” -Adlai Stevenson
Wow-wee, we’re already to the second debate. Town hall, eh? The audience was completely devoid of emotion, reading in monotone from prepared cards. Seriously, isn’t one of these guys going to be leader of the [...]
And there it went…

The Vice Presidential debate is officially over. What have we learned?
1) Palin did better than expected.
2) She thought she had to ask permission to call Joe Biden ‘Joe.’ I guess that’s some sort of Alaskan thing.
Things we already knew that were confirmed:
1) Biden has a far better command of the issues.
2) Palin talks in circles, and [...]

Round, round we go, where we stop, everyone knows: November 4th, the big day, the racial referendum, or the silent majority, or the Two Americas, cast their ballots for the him and him or the him and her, and we’ll finally see real change, fundamental change, change we can believe in?
Both sides talk about [...]
